Digital Marketing Predictions for 2015

Digital Marketing Predictions for 2015

So I know in the next week you’ll see a lot of these posts from different people come your way.  Some will tell you the next big thing is coming, while others will say several techniques no longer work.  To be honest nothing in the grand scheme of things is changing if you are doing the right things already and not trying to cut corners.  If you have been chasing rankings and only focusing on rankings, you my friend should be worried.

Content Is And Will Continue To Be Important

Content will continue to be important.  After all, the content you present to your visitors should be easily consumable by them.  Meaning your research should play a part in determining the type of information they are looking for, and the corresponding intent of those searches that get the user to the corresponding content.  Your content should be natural and provide value.  Based on the short time you have to present yourself, you should utilize other possible content types like images and rich media.  Broadly writing a landing page for seo will not give you the desired result you are looking for.  Writing to appease the search engines will also ultimately fail because your content will have poor user experience which drives up your bounce rate.  Consciously thinking about your target demographic and finding overlapping traits you can connect to will go a long way as well.

Links Will Still Matter

We all know quantity isn’t quality in link building.  Neither is specific methods in building linking which were devalued over time.  The new link building is building relationships, increasing authority through those relationships, and creating relevance in your vertical.  Instead of a link scheme that takes time to compile and assets to fulfill, focus that time to promote your content, increase social sharing, increase brand mentions, and building partnerships within your vertical.  Authorities talking about your brand and linking to it still is the easiest way to correlate relevance and authority.  The value of a link will never go away in my opinion.  The right links matter.  I would also take one no follow link over numerous followed ones if the end result is a new referral targeted traffic source.  Links help search engines group and correlate the relationships between content types across the web which is also important. There are hundreds of ways to acquire links.   You should think about the overall value that a link will give you or your brand, over attaining it simply as a link.

Mobile Will Still Be Needed To Succeed

Having a mobile representation of your site will still be key in capitalizing on mobile traffic.  Those who refuse to adapt may not survive in the long run as search engines begin correlating mobile friendliness with good user experience, and ultimately using it as a ranking signal.  It is not something that will become a penalization event per say, but in theory you will be penalizing yourself.  Those sites that will provide a good mobile user experience will be showed over those which aren’t mobile friendly.  In mobile search Google is already testing the idea of showing a green cell phone icon meaning mobile compatibility as well as some search actually saying, “mobile friendly next to the result.  Optimally, If your brand or company is looking to provide a unique experience on mobile devices a stand alone mobile domain or mobile sub domain may be your best bet.  You can also go the route of creating an app that serves as your mobile site.  At minimum your site should be responsive and designed with mobile in mind.

Doing the right things is all it comes down to being.  It takes hard work and time to build out a successful seo program.  Social media and content marketing are just as time consuming.  If your not willing to invest the time and do things the right way, your cutting corners will eventually cost you your digital generated revenue and maybe even you brand reputation.  In anything, doing things the right way is the hard road to take.  Those that take short cuts often do not make it to their destination.  On a lighter note, on behalf of everyone at Nova Zora Digital have a healthy and Happy New Year.  If you are looking for help with digital marketing services in the new year, well can help.  Contact us for more information.
